Opinion Paper Assessment Rubric

1. Writer’s opinion is clearly stated in the opening of the essay.
2. Writer’s opinion is clearly argued/explained in an effort to persuade their audience.
3. Writer uses passages from both texts to support their explanation of their opinion.
4. Writer leaves no questions unanswered about how they feel about the subject. They try to address the subject fully.

1. There is an opening, a middle, and a closing.
2. The opinion is stated like a thesis, and that thesis is restated in the close of the essay.
3. The body of the essay is organized in paragraphs with topic sentences and support.
4. The closing of the essay begins with writer’s opinion and finishes with a broad and convincing look at the subject.
